How to Use Your Pace Band
Print it right
Use your browser print dialog (Ctrl+P or Cmd+P). Choose landscape orientation and set margins to minimum. Cut the printed strip to about 1 inch tall. Wrap it around your wrist and tape or laminate it. For a reusable version, slide the strip into a clear silicone wristband sleeve.
Start slightly slow
Most runners go out too fast in the first mile. Aim for 5 to 10 seconds slower than your target pace for the first unit. This lets you settle into rhythm. Then hit your splits from mile 2 onward. You will likely make up the time in the second half.
Adjust for conditions
Even pacing is the goal on paper. In real life, hills slow you down and downhills speed you up. Heat and humidity also cost time. If your course has big hills, add 10 to 20 seconds per mile for each steep climb. In hot weather, add 15 to 30 seconds per mile once temperatures rise above 70°F.
Negative splits
A negative split means running the second half faster than the first. It is a smart strategy for longer races. If you feel strong at the halfway point, aim to drop 5 to 10 seconds per mile for the rest of the race. Your band shows even splits, so think of it as the slowest you should be at each point.
Common Questions
- What if my race distance is not listed in the presets?
- Type any distance into the distance field. It accepts decimals, so you can enter 8.3 miles or 1500 meters (as 1.5 km).
- Can I use this for a relay leg?
- Yes. Enter the leg distance and your goal time for that leg. The splits will cover just that segment.
- Why does my GPS show a different pace?
- GPS watches show instant pace, which jumps around. The band shows average pace per full unit. Over a full mile or kilometer, the two numbers should be close.
- How do I share my band with a friend?
- Click "Share Link". It copies a URL to your clipboard. When your friend opens it, the same distance, time, and splits load automatically.
- Does this work offline?
- Once the page loads, everything runs in your browser. No internet connection needed to generate or print bands.
